Quartz vs Natural Quartzite
The main difference is that quartzite is a natural stone material while quartz is synthetic. Quartzite is a type of metamorphic rock created by sandstone being subjected to extreme heat and pressure from tectonic plate compression in the crust of the earth. The stone is then mined and sawn into slabs to become countertops or tabletops that are polished and sealed for beauty and durability. Quartz countertops, also known as engineered countertops, are made from natural silicon dioxide and synthetic materials blended with a binder and pigment before being formed into slabs with a similar appearance.
Both rival the beauty and durability of granite, marble and other natural stone materials, but quartzite needs to be sealed for protection against wine, coffee or other common foods that can leave stains.
